"The IB gives students distinct advantages by providing strong foundations, critical thinking skills, and a proficiency for solving complex problems, while encouraging diversity, curiosity, and a healthy appetite for learning and excellence. In a world where asking the right questions is as important as discovering answers, the IB champions critical thinking and flexibility in study by crossing disciplinary, cultural and national boundaries. Welcoming Atmosphere

Join IB students who (like you) are self-driven learners looking to further their education in a balanced and supportive environment. The IB Diploma classes foster group discussion, peer review, and collaborative projects that allow you opportunities to connect with peers and build friendships.

Diverse Community

Midlothian IB is an active, welcoming, and inclusive community. With lots of hard work and dedication, we constantly strive to find new ways to support each other and our programme. Each year, our IB students and their families enjoy different community outings, informational sessions, and social events designed to bring us together, keep us well informed of what's going on within the community, and share in the IB experience.

Personal Growth

For an enriched high school experience, we encourage all of our IB students to not only excel academically within our programme, but to strive to become involved within the school itself and to take advantage of our excellent campus, classes, and student body activities, along with the multitude of course offerings and extracurricular opportunities offered by our school and by our Midlo IB community.

College Prep & Academic Rigor

IB is widely recognized and favored by the world's leading universities for offering a rigorous pre-university course of study, along with its breadth & depth of teaching. IB offers college-level courses that receive the highest weighted GPA (over traditional high school classes) for students and merit the potential for college credits and/or advanced standing in colleges. Beyond practical preparation for college (for instance, with the extended essay, an in-depth college-level research essay required by IB), IB also helps students develop the skills and positive attitudes towards learning that will prepare them for higher education.

Holistic Education

Our holistic approach to education focuses on a student-centered curriculum that seeks to develop well-rounded individuals who develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically. Each part of the IB curriculum interweaves traditional academic disciplines, offers reflection, and helps students make connections at all levels. Unique to our programme, students are encouraged to challenge assumptions as they explore the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim we know in our Theory of Knowledge courses.

International Perspective

Throughout our IB subjects, global perspectives are blended. Our students will learn about the world and its cultures, study at least two languages, and explore real-world global issues. The international academic curriculum fosters international mindedness, cultural awareness, and respect while promoting diversity and celebrating differences. Our students gain real insight into cultures, the needs of society, and issues that have personal, local, and global relevance.

Academic Balance

IB promotes a healthy school-life balance by helping students learn the skills for success (focusing on communication, collaboration, thinking, research, and self-management skills). In addition, IB offers a built-in counterbalance to the academic curriculum that enhances personal and interpersonal development while helping students grow and pursue their passions through CAS or (Creativity-Activity-Service). All IB students will earn hours of CAS outside of the classroom to satisfy one of the requirements for receiving an IB Diploma.

Global Credentials

The IB Diploma is recognized and respected worldwide by leading universities and employers. The valuable preparation that IB students receive makes them not only ideal candidates for colleges across the globe but proven candidates for employment as well.  IB Graduates often report that they feel better prepared for college and feel fully supported to face the challenges they encounter in life.
